    To the Editor:

A merger with all the good intentions of reducing costs has failed, a district that funds itself, not on the basis of our ability to pay, but one that assesses its expenses, on the percentage of students from each town. The school millage rate per thousand is $2.74 for Kennebunkport, $10.13 for Arundel, and $10.53 in Kennebunk. If you have a home assessed at $300,000 in Arundel you are paying school taxes of $3,039, that same home in Kennebunkport you would be paying $822.

The district is unable to function in a fiscally responsible manner, because of an agreement that seeks to keep open schools that are structurally unsound and no longer needed, but meet an outdated norm that we need neighborhood schools. A town like Kennebunkport would have you believe that Consolidated School is the thread that holds the community together, but when it comes to paying for the repairs estimated at $4 million-plus, we (Arundel and Kennebunk) would pay 70 percent of that cost.

  3. Here is some easy math.
(Kennebunkport pays more than Arundel) + (Kennebunkport has fewer kids than Arundel) + (Kennebunkport has done a study and determined there will be no cost savings by withdrawing) = NO way Arundel is going to save money by withdrawing.

Thanks JR, ML, DB, PR, MM, M&PG for causing such a rift in the town. Maybe if you had put your emotions with reguard to TA aside, this town would be celebrating the excellent education we now have, instead of ripping the town apart with your spin on information and your Personal feelings.

  4. If all you anonymous people had the guts to ad your name, perhaps you may actually have some credibility.

  5. And I'm sure that some of you are folks in the group who 'anonymously' got together for an 'anonymous' meeting where the advertising was spread by 'word of mouth'. Right?

  6. Stones and Glass houses don't mix...you are right on one occasion..One would assume your house has a lot of broken glass.

This comment listed above is coming from a group whom developed a PRO RSU Flyers with misinformation through out the document, then distributed to only select people in our community. No invite for others to participate in the process, yet alone read the so called FACTS.

As for the meeting in reference, The meeting was advertised prior to the meeting via email distribution, facebook [2 major Arundel Groups], word of mouth, local signage and on this website on March 10th, 2012.
