Things appear to be heating up again in Arundel.
The
latest controversy appears to involve Town Manager Todd Shea who, along
with the Board of Selectmen, decided to release a few years' worth of
assessment figures, or how much the town assesses on behalf of the
school system (first Arundel, now RSU 21) each year from taxpayers.
"I wanted to put the numbers out for people who
were getting misinformation. I wanted to factually present the
numbers," Shea said.
He also said he had no bias in the matter, given that his own children aren't part of the district.
That
didn't stop people on both sides of the issue, though, from accusing
Shea and other town leaders of trying to sway people to one side or the
other.
Enough already. With the vote on
withdrawal only days away, it's time for the residents of Arundel to
stop pointing fingers and flinging mud and focus on making the
best-informed decision they can about the educational future of the
town's children.
We can see both sides of the argument.
Agreed.... With some of the crazy number manipulating that I am seeing in the paper as editorials it is about time that the town provide accurate information. just because it doesn't support one side of the issue DOES NOT make it bias...it people are fighting accurate information being put in a paper because they don't want people to see that they have been spewing misleading numbers...seems to me that points in a clear direction...
ReplyDeleteI believe both sides want to see the numbers from the town, but there were some folks at one of the last Selectmen's meetings who fought tooth and nail for that not to happen.
ReplyDeleteWhy? Wouldn't it be helpful for all of us, if a no-biased third party put out those calculations? The Selectmen are to remain neutral with regard to how the information is presented; you'd think that everyone would be okay with them sharing the information.
