ARUNDEL — Residents gathered to discuss the
issue of possible withdrawal from the RSU 21 on Monday, March 26, at
Mildred L. Day School.
Following the procedure
for a Board of Selectmen meeting, Chairwoman Velma Jones Hayes opened
the dialogue by cautioning all residents to fact check and to contact
town staff and RSU representatives from Arundel with questions.
"We all want to make sure our kids get the best education," Hayes said in her opening statement.
Town
Manager Todd Shea stated that the potential withdrawal process is a
"serious matter" and he hopes "people can vote with their conscience."
Not sure the press covered this issue well. There should have been more emphasis on the withdraw supporters lack of information, including Pete Gallant dodging the first 3 questions from the Town clerk and the BOS, telling us all we should have been to the meeting they had at the golf course. What meeting you ask? The one he arranged for by word of mouth.
ReplyDeleteApparently the 30 people who atteneded that were more important than the 90 who attended the TOWN MEETING! Then Pete accused the teachers of cheating because the test scores have improved so much at MLDay. Oops, he said he was not accusing anyone. He was just countering a point from the RSU supporters who stated the scores were up dramatically from before the RSU. He was just quoting an article from Atlanta Georgia that discussed test scores and cheating. To bad Dr. Crowley had to be so professional and only pointed out students, who came from MLDay after the RSU, are now performing better at TAMS too.
Good luck teachers and students. Pete is the head of this withdraw group. Expect more funding cuts because apparently well developed and supported teachers only learn to cheat, not teach better. Look out parents. Pete does not think your kids are learning anything except how to cheat on tests.
Not that I am accusing anyone, but did you see the article in the paper about the call fireman from Machias who was found gulity of Arson? Pete, you are a call fireman for Arundel right?
Sure? Not so sure you assumption is correct, maybe it was for the better of the town, and not allowing the arguement to continue. Enough! Not accusing anyone? Re-read. Stop bullying, nobody posts their name on here for the fear of people like you righting this stuff, and not to mention the actions. I am voting YES!
ReplyDeleteexcuse me...writing! Shame me for that too.
ReplyDeleteNot sure... well I am sure that the Anti RSU people STARTED and Perpetuated this Argument in our town with their Lying phone calls (of which a friend recently got one) and their unscrupulous tactics... The Defenders of our education are simply sick of it and are trying to give good information. Pete was completely wrong in what he did...nice guy or not, and it simply highlighted the dirty politics the Anti RSU crew has shown all along.
ReplyDeleteI am voting NO because the NO side seems to ACTUALLY HAVE KNOWLEDGE, and since this vote is about education and not which color HS sweatshirt you choose to put on....I am going NO.
I want to SAVE my School, SAVE my Taxes, and Save my TOWN from this ridiculousness....
so I am a BIG NO VOTE!
