Not going anywhere


To the Editor:
I have on more than one occasion been told, if I like Kennebunk so much, why don’t I just move there? My answer to my Arundel neighbors is because I love my home. All three of my babies have only known this house as home. Arundel is part of RSU 21 so they are receiving a top-notch education right now and I’m just working very hard to keep it that way. Selling a home in Arundel isn’t much of an option right now anyway. Our home appraised for $25,000 less than it did two years ago.

  1. Just a thought, MAYBE the sick Middle School of the Kennebunks has something to do with the lower real estate values and longer sales process.

    To the Editor:

    Withdrawing from RSU 21 will only decrease our property evaluations more. Several Arundel home sellers have lost potential buyers due to the fact that their children won’t be able to attend MSK. According to a local real estate broker, a $250,000-300,000 Arundel home is selling for $175,000. Arundel is trying to attract new businesses to the area as well and one thing they look at is the school system. The better a school performs the more attractive it is to new businesses and to new home buyers. Keep in mind, the lower the property evaluation, the less state funding we receive.

  4. So it sounds like we should fight to send our kids to [MSK]a sick school and not listen to the teachers and their REAL HEALTH concerns as presented.

    We can believe in their teaching ability but not in their ability to speak the truth about what the SICK building has been and is doing to them, their family lives and the kids of our community.

    All for improved property values and the ability for Arundel Residents to attend MSK? I do not follow the logic, then again I never had an opportunity for International Baccalaureate schooling.

    One may think the greater level of education, the easier the decision.

    1. The fight is for the quality of education. If you do not want to send a child to msk, don't. But arundel did not provide well enough at mlday. Bottom % or top % for less money?

      Based on the comment above thus argument appears to be still about private versus public and nothing more.

    2. Hard to believe one can FIGHT for "Quality of Education" if you are forced to send your child to a SICK SCHOOL!!! What about the health an wellness of the Staff and students...

      The Fight is not about Private or Public School.. yet about a high quality education in a safe environment..which we all can afford. Highest Level of Education for the BEST VALE!

      Dr. C and staff @ ML Day provide just that a High Quality Education in a Safe Environment.

      Hopefully one in the future that we can all afford.

      I must have missed where anyone was going to force a child to MSK. Not to take anything away from Dr. C, but Dr C and the staff at MLD would not be providing the same level, if not for a strong system mostly built by the former MSAD71 and now known as RSU21.

  6. I do not believe our housing market crisis is a direct result of the RSU21 issue as some may want us to believe...It's the economy!

    NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The housing market started the new year with a thud. Home prices dropped for the fifth consecutive month in January, reaching their lowest point since the end of 2002.

    The average home sold in that month lost 0.8% of its value, compared with a month earlier, and prices were down 3.8% from 12 months earlier, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index of 20 major markets.

    Home prices have fallen a whopping 34.4% from the peak set in July 2006.

  7. Then why have three of our neighbors lost potential buyers because the buyers found out their kids won't be able to go to MSK, yet bussed two towns away to an under performing private school?
