Arundel may seek its own zip code

ARUNDEL — The town of Arundel is investigating the process of acquiring a town zip code.

Town Planner Tad Redway said the Economic Development Committee is continuously finding new ways to help Arundel create its own town identity. Currently, Arundel shares a zip code with Kennebunkport.

"It's in the early stages," Redway said. "I have no idea how long this process would take."

Redway said the next step in the process will be discussions with representatives, including Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, about what it takes to get a zip code and whether it's a realistic option for Arundel.

Human remains found in Kennebunkport; chief contacts families of 2 students

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — Nearly two months after two Landing School students disappeared, a local resident walking a dog discovered human remains around 5 p.m. Sunday on Vaughn's Island, just off the coast of Cape Porpoise.
The island can be reached from the mainland at low tide.
The remains, which are currently at the Maine Medical Examiner's Office, were recovered by members of the town's police and fire departments.
Police Chief Craig Sanford said it could take several days before an identification is made.

Zachary Wells, 21, and Prescott Wright, 23, were last seen at 5 Mills Road in Kennebunkport around midnight on Dec. 20.

Sanford said he has reached out to both of the students' families.
“I contacted them and let them know we just don't know,” he said. “We don't want to jump to conclusions.”

Police believe a Scarborough teenager, who has been missing since Thursday morning, is headed to Old Town and is in danger.

Rachel Ann Wallace, 17, left her home around 8 a.m. Thursday driving a blue 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage with a license plate 2835SR, according a post on the Scarborough Police Department's Facebook page.

Wallace, a student at Catherine McAuley High School in Portland, told her mother she was going on a class field trip, but the school called her mother to report her absence.

Police are asking anyone who has seen Wallace or her car to call the Scarborough department at 883-6361 or dial 911. Anyone with information about her whereabouts can call the anonymous crime tip hotline at 730-4200, ext. 3093.
