Agreement outlines first year if Arundel leaves RSU 21
The Regional School Unit 21 Withdrawal Committee signed the final draft of a withdrawal agreement for Arundel.
The agreement details what will happen after the first year of
withdrawl from RSU 21, options for student school choice and
transportation within and outside the school district.
By Tuesday, Aug. 28, Commissioner of Education Stephen Bowen granted conditional approval of the agreement.
A public hearing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the
Mildred L. Day School in Arundel to allow citizens to view the final
withdrawal agreement. Then it will go to a public vote at town meeting
in November. If it does not pass at town meeting, the whole process
starts over again.
After a special municipal referendum on April 10, Arundel residents voted 517-291 to leave RSU 21.
A draft of the agreement from Arundel was sent to the RSU 21’s
attorney June 16. At an early July withdrawal committee meeting with RSU
21 Superintendent of Schools Andrew Dolloff, they discussed the wording
of the agreement between the town and the RSU.
Dolloff praised the work of the committee after the vote taken at the
emergency meeting on Friday, Aug. 24, as well as the expediency of the
commissioner’s office.
