OLD ORCHARD BEACH – The Patry family has been making butter in a residential neighborhood off Saco Avenue in Old Orchard Beach for more than 30 years, but now neighbors say they are tired of having an industrial activity going on next door.
Harry Bailey, who’s lived next to the Kate’s Homemade Butter plant for the past 25 years, finally got so fed up with the noise and activity that he made a formal complaint earlier this summer to the town requesting a meeting of its Administrative Board.
That board has the power to recommend to the Town Council that the business license for Kate’s be revoked. However, at a meeting last week, all present agreed they didn’t want to put Kate’s out of business, only find a way to live with the company until it can move to a new building off Route 111 in Arundel.

This is why the construction has stopped...
ReplyDeleteThe problem, he said, is that work on the Patrys’ new building in Arundel was stopped earlier this summer after a problem was found with the way the roof was installed. Now, a new roofing contractor must be called in.
This means that the company wouldn’t be able to move out of its Old Orchard Beach location until late spring or early summer next year instead of this summer, as the Patrys initially told their neighbors
