It's absolutely ridiculous that this meeting would not include the financial impact in its discussion. Isn't that supposed to be the determining factor as to whether this goes forward or not?
If we don't know how it will affect our taxes, or if we can even afford to do it, what's the point of discussing the withdrawal agreement?
And what on God's green earth is the hurry? We don't *need* to vote on this in November. We *need* ALL of the information, including the financial information, and a public hearing that discusses ALL of that information.
This is a cart before the horse situation; with only one year mapped out, and with no financial information, you'd would be a fool to support this agreement.
And one might ask themselves why this happened the way it did. Many asked the Board of Selectmen to do just that, they wouldn't budge. For the lack of doing so, they made a decision, some didn't like it, and moved forward with the withdrawal proceding forcing them to.
Statute gives Arundel high school choice, some refuse to hear that point. Morally wrong, is to lie about the withdrawal agreement and say we do not have choice. The problem with all of this is a small bunch in town do not want to wait for the results, and then don't attend meetings and get upset, and take for what they read in the newspaper as truth. That is morally wrong. The town will be held accountable if statute isn't followed. Do you really think that if the town denied a student to attend KHS that someone would not make a big stink about it? Pro-choice here....and all of you keep fighting amongst each other instead of working together. That is morally wrong.
Great informative Arrow. It tells the Arundel voters exactly what the meeting on September 19th is about.

It's all according to statute.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. However, there was no obligation to go through withdrawal proceedings before doing some due diligence.
DeleteThis whole process put the cart before the horse. People were lied to, and this Wednesday's meeting is going to be rather lively.

DeleteStatute? Something is wrong!
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't the town follow statute? It would be wrong if they didn't.
DeleteThe statute does not hold the town to any accountability. It is badly written and, in my opinion, morally wrong.
