District welcomes new staff members

Many new faces greet Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport students and community members as they return to school this fall.


Kennebunk High School welcomes four new teachers and a new guidance counselor.

English teacher Jaclyn Proulx graduated from University of New England as an English and secondary education double major. She has interned at Kennebunk High School with the ninth-grade team. She also was a substitute teacher at Pembroke Academy in New Hampshire.

Music teacher Benjamin Potvin received his Bachelor of Arts from University of Southern Maine in music education and his master’s from University of Southern Maine. Potvin previously worked as an instrument and theory teacher for grades seven through 12 in Woodstock, Vt. He has also worked as a music teacher in Ashland for kindergarten through grade 12.

Science teacher Hillary Medeiros has a Bachelor of Science and is currently working toward a master’s degree at the University of Maine in Orono. Medeiros previously taught biology at Hodgdon High School in Houlton.

Resource room teacher Laurie Ryan has a Bachelor of Arts from University of Maine Augusta and a Master of Science in inclusion education from University of New England. She is currently working toward a certificate of advanced graduate study in literacy from University of New England. Ryan was a special education teacher and case manager in Hermon. She has also worked with at-risk students at Hampden Academy in Hampden.

  Jennifer Bartlett, the high school’s new guidance counselor, has been a school counselor for 14 years. Bartlett has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Brown University and her master’s in school counseling from Georgia State University.
High school music teacher Bruce Lewia is new assistant principal. He has been with the district since 1980 when he taught elementary instrumental music. He has since taught middle and high school instrumental music and became chairman of the high school’s music department.

Lewia received his Bachelor of Science in music education and his master’s in educational leadership at University of Southern Maine. Lewia will continue to teach an International Baccalaureate music course in addition to his administrative duties.
Sue Cressey, former high school English teacher, is the high school’s new principal.

Cressey, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts from University of Connecticut, began her professional career as an English teacher in South Portland in 1974. She has taught English at Kennebunk High School since 1986. She has served on the administrative team since 1995. Cressey earned her graduate degree from University of Southern Maine in 2002.

Molly Lawson and Rachel McGlashan arrive at Middle School of the Kennebunks as part-time life skills teacher and gifted and talented teacher, respectively. Lawson received a Bachelor of Science in special education and elementary education at Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa.

McGlashan has a master’s from University of  Southern Maine in literacy education,  and Bachelor of Arts from  Spelman College. She is a developmental math specialist at University of New England and was previously an English teacher at Lake Region High School in Naples.
Kelley Damboise arrives at Sea Road School as a part-time physical education teacher. Damboise graduated from University of Maine at Farmington with a Bachelor of Science in community health education with a specialization in education for kindergarten through grade 12. She worked as an education technician III at Songo Locks Elementary School in Naples and a student teacher at Mountain Valley Middle School in Mexico, Maine.

Mildred L. Day School welcomes Kent Chapman and Katie Jensen as new fourth- and first-grade teachers, respectively. Chapman has taught at Kennebunkport Consolidated School as well as schools in Portland and California. While in California, Jensen was one of 10 educators nationally honored on the “Today Show” for engaging students.

Jensen joins the district after teaching for 10 years at Line Elementary School in West Newfield. Jensen was honored as RSU 57’s Teacher of the Year.

Nicole Bretton also arrives at Mildred L. Day School as the new guidance counselor. Bretton earned her Bachelor of Arts and master’s in counseling from Curry College. She last year coached basketball and softball at Kennebunk High School.

  2. Yes, let's get rid of those hard working teachers at MLD. Guess what we'll be doing if the folks who want to withdraw, do so!

    Yes, let's be cheerleaders of the slash and burn team; Arundel's children deserve it, right?

  4. How can one 'read into' a statement as simple as 'we don't need new staff, we need to cut' ?

    This is an Arundel forum, for Arundel citizens; that includes parents of Arundel students, who would go to school at MLD. There are new staff at MLD according to this article.

    Logic eluding ya?
