Downtown plans are finalized

Arundel planning board approves proposal for ‘more intensive commercial ...’ area
ARUNDEL — The planning board finalized plans for the town’s second Downtown Business District. The meeting, lasting nearly three hours was, at times, contentious.

Board members voted unanimously to pass stipulations for Downtown Business District 2, with amendments: “Residential, single family, provided the residence floor area is subordinate to the floor area of the operating business use on the site.”

The goal of both business districts is to maximize the “functionality of available land,” according to a memo given to the public at the meeting.

A derivative of Arundel’s market and branding study, organized and administered by The Chesapeake Group, the town has long since reexamined ways to boost its economy while making its topographic layout more accommodating.

  1. Alas, there is movement in the right direction. I don't think this is going to be something that changes the tax base in Arundel instantly, and is going to take many years to get the business infrastructure in town.
