By Alex Acquisto

Board members voted unanimously to pass stipulations for Downtown Business District 2, with amendments: “Residential, single family, provided the residence floor area is subordinate to the floor area of the operating business use on the site.”
The goal of both business districts is to maximize the “functionality of available land,” according to a memo given to the public at the meeting.
A derivative of Arundel’s market and branding study, organized and administered by The Chesapeake Group, the town has long since reexamined ways to boost its economy while making its topographic layout more accommodating.

The plot of the movie revolves around Sandler's character, Lenny, who has relocated his family to the small town where he and his friends grew up. The movie, which also features Chris Rock and David Spade, centers around the last day of school and features bullies, drunk cops, party crashers and crazed grade-school girlfriends, according promotional materials for the film.
The glamor shot of Kate's butter comes at a key time for Kate's, which is preparing to expand from its 1,000-square-foot home-based business to a 17,600-square-foot facility in Arundel in September. Swimmer wins third straight Peaks to Portland | Kirsten Read of Arundel was the top female finisher (13th overall)
By GREG REID, Special to the Telegram
PORTLAND — Scott Yeomans doesn't pay much attention to who might be nearby on open-water swims. But he can tell you he was never completely alone Saturday morning when he won the YMCA Peaks to Portland swim for the third straight year.
Kirsten Read of Arundel was the top female finisher (13th overall) in her first attempt at the swim, finishing in 55:08. Read, 48, edged Sarah Guerette of Portland, 32, by 1:35.
Read was pleased with her swim, given her recovery from shoulder surgery 18 months ago and the support she got from her husband, Bruce, who was her kayaker.
"It's been a long road back from shoulder surgery so I'm really excited to be healthy again," she said. "You keep up with whomever you can keep up with. You just go as fast as you can, have a good time and hope for the best. Whatever place you come in, you come in."

Survey says: ‘Where’s Arundel?’
By Alex Acquisto
ARUNDEL — Howard Kohn of the market and branding organization The Chesapeake Group formally addressed the board of selectmen and most members of the Economic Development Committee dotting the crowd on Monday evening with a presentation of Arundel’s issues, weaknesses and strengths he has compiled over the last few months.
The town of Arundel hired the market and branding group based out of Maryland earlier this year for $25,000 as an effort to resuscitate the township in collaboration with Arundel’s comprehensive economic plan.
Residents were asked to participate in a survey accessible on the town’s website in the spring; 23 percent of households re- sponded to the survey.
Kohn used personal pronouns when describing Arundel and its residents. “This is what we have to offer,” he said.
Lifted from the proposal that the Chesapeake Group sent to Town Planner Todd Shea earlier this year, its goals are as follows: “placing Arundel within the context of the larger economy and trends; assessments of site-specific opportunities, generally within the context of larger geographic areas; economic revitalization, including ‘Main Streets’ and mixed-use development plans; community development strategies; defining opportunities for emerging research and development related to agricultural production, natural resources and technology application shifting; and tourism development.”
Said Shea in April, “TCG is helping us find an identity that sets us apart from our surrounding communities, and to do that while utilizing our resources and not exploiting them.”

Preliminary cost estimates at $76 million for RSU 21 projects
jfeals@seacoastonline.com
June 20, 2013 2:00 AM
KENNEBUNK — The RSU 21 Facilities Committee learned last week that it will have to grapple with changes to proposed renovations for Mildred L. Day School and Kennebunkport Consolidated School that have increased their price tags to nearly $10 million each.
During a June 14 meeting, members of the Facilities Committee heard an update on renovation plans for the two schools as well as Kennebunk High School. While cost estimates are still preliminary, the newest figures presented to the committee during the meeting show a $76 million price tag for all three projects.
The newest proposal for Mildred L. Day School, estimated at $10.6 million — a jump from the $4 million originally proposed — came after the project was revamped following a study that revealed that a wing of the building known to have settled since construction is continuing to sink. While the cost for improvements to Consolidated School was previously estimated at $4.2 million, members of the school's building committee said Friday that the plan has been updated to better meet the needs of the school community, raising the cost to $9.6 million.
It was an at times tense meeting as those present — members of the Facilities Committee, members of the building committees for each of the three schools who put together the most recent plans, and residents — at points seemed at odds.
